Creative Weaving Ideas
The Dollar Tree, portable, weaving loom idea for the creative soul on the go :) |
I am always looking out for different objects to weave on. I don't know why I started doing this, but it is so much fun for me, and it will make me really happy to share my ideas with you so that you can try them too!
1. Warp it 2. Weave it 3. Love it |
This first weaving loom idea can be started with a quick trip to a Dollar Tree store to pick up one of these handy dandy plastic bins. If you are like me, you already have at leave a hundred. I use them to sort floss, pens, markers, and other craft related items for me and my 3 year old daughter. They are very useful. I even use them in the kitchen for organizing snacks in the cabinets and in the utensil drawer.
I tested the process going completely around the bin with the warp string, and through the existing holes. For me, the holes worked much better.
Next, I just wanted to see what was possible... so I did a few different test squares for fun. I did a combination of both hand knotting techniques and weaving techniques. I think some of the combinations looks beautiful together and will make lovely pieces of hand made, hand woven, hand knotted jewelry.
Top square: hand knotting technique - alpha style knotting |
The best part about this particular loom idea is that you can toss all of your supplies into the bin, warped and all... and take it in the car, on vacation, to the doctors office... wherever you go, you can have a loom with you so you never have to stop creating.
If you give this idea a try... I would love to see what you have come up with. Enjoy!

Friendship-Bracelets.net - Patterns for days!
When I first found Friendship-Bracelets.net, I'm pretty sure I spent several months going through all the patterns, and tutorials they have on the site. I couldn't stop looking at the patterns long enough to make any of them. I still spend a lot of time there looking at the latest and greatest additions to their already enormous stock. New gems are added daily by community members. In addition to normal friendship bracelet patterns, they also have tons of alpha patterns and kumihimo patterns. Whatever your poison, or whether you are a beginning or pro, knotter, cross stitcher, or general crafter... you will not leave this site without saving at least a couple hundred designs.
This is just a couple of my favorite selections during my visit today. These are smaller patterns, ranging from 8 strings to 12 strings. I'm sure if you're here, you've probably already been there... if not, you should head there now because you've got a lot to see. I'm going to check out the new alphas... maybe I'll share those too. Enjoy!

Happy Saturday! Today I am offering another free chart. This is a simple chart that can be used as an alpha pattern for a hand knotted piece (mini tapestry or friendship bracelet), as a cross stitch chart, or any craft that involves the use of a charted pattern. Free Original Bookmark Chart
My beautiful little girl turned 3 on July 28th. I had carpel tunnel surgery on my right side (yep, right handed) on Aug 5th. It is difficult to knot, weave, stitch, cook, shower... it is difficult to do just about everything... and since I can't stand not doing something, I've been using old lefty to create some new charts.
This chart was designed with the idea of using it as a cross stitch bookmark. Of course, you can use it any way you like. I am planning to hand knot this chart as soon as the cast comes off. I will add photos of the finished piece when I finish it. Hopefully before September comes.
If you just want the alpha pattern, you can right-click and save, if you want the cross stitch .pdf file, which includes chart info and color scheme info, click link under chart. This chart is offered free of charge. Please enjoy it and feel free to share your photos if you use my design.

Free Charts: 1 Design, 3 Variations
Happy Sunday! Today I am offering a new alpha pattern. I have created 3 color variations of the same design. This pattern will work great for hand knotting floss or yarn bracelets (friendship bracelets) and can also be used for small cross stitch border pattern, or a loom bead pattern. Enjoy!

Free Patterns For All!
Hi everyone-
I am happy to announce that I will be publishing some of my patterns on this blog. The patterns that I create can be used for a variety of crafts and hobbies. The software I use to create and publish my designs is called StitchSketch Pro. I will be sharing the charts only. Please right-click to save the patterns you want. You are welcome to use the color schemes I have chosen, or come up with your own. The patterns are free to use and enjoy.
The most wonderful thing about charts (also known as alpha patterns, grids, or graphs - and others) can be used for so many things. You can use them for hand-knotting friendship bracelets patterns, micro macrame, cross-stitch charts, loom beading patterns, pixel art patterns, Perler Bead patterns, Filet Crochet patterns, Knitting motifs, Tapestry Weaving... and probably more.
If you are like me you've probably used a cross stitch border to make a hand-knotted bracelet, and vice versa. I have gone so far as to use the charted solutions for Japanese Crossword Puzzles to create hand-knotted creations.
I have a lot of fun creating beautiful works of art and wearable art pieces and am happy to share some of my designs with you. In the future, I will likely release only one design at a time... but for my introductory post, I am sharing a batch of basic designs that are fantastic for beginners. Please enjoy.
